Quote:I've wondered on a couple of ocassions why the Olympus XZ-1 hasn't been mentioned in this thread

If I had been an Olympus fan boy then yes I may have, but since this is a Fuji X10 thread and I`ve never been a fan boy of any brand, why should I Smile

And bugger it CB, you failed to take the bait Smile Smile

Oh I almost did! Grin

The Fuji X10 does seem a very interesting camera but not really pocketable is it? I already have a 'nearly pocketable' camera in my Olympus Pen!

Out of curiosity I looked up the dimensions and weight for 3 cameras.

Fuji X10................. 117 x 69.6 x 56.8mm 350g
Panasonic TZ20...... 105 x 58 x 33mm 219g (this is very similar to the TZ10 I sold)
Canon S100........... 98.9 x 59.9 x 26.7mm 198g

It would fit a coat pocket, well some.

I`ve not compared dimensions against say a Pen.

The X10`s spec is more like that of a modern prosumer and maybe a tad smaller, but its not a compact.

What are the case options for this camera ? I dont really like the leather always on camera type, well scrap that I do, I just find the front bit flopping about a pain, so looking for for a slim fit wrap around case. Any ideas ?

Cheers

Is this the sort of thing you mean?
I have one on my S90 a lot of the time if I intend to put it in a pocket with other stuff (keys etc). I haev seen them in PC World, Jessops etc for 12-15

I've had my X10 for a couple of days. Not really had the chance yet to really give it a good run out but have just been seeing how it performs in low light. As PS doesn't yet support RAW files from the X10 I've been shooting JPEGS and quite frankly I'm amazed at the image quality and lack of noise. No noise at all really at 800iso, very little at 2000iso and still very useable at 3200iso. in fact in some ways I think it actually gives my 5DMkI a run for it's money at these high settings. I also compared it back to back with the G9 that it's replaced. On a different level entirely!

There's a good article on how to set up the camera to get the best out of the EXR Sensor
here

For what it's worth I really like the leather case Grin

Thanks for the link Mike - I'll be reading that tomorrow Smile

I've ordered a cheapo mock-leather case for now - it should arrive in the next day or so - and should do the job until I feel extravagant enough to splash out on the leather one!

I reserved one couple weeks ago.
Then I tell the rest of my story with it.

Thought I'd share this with my fellow x10 users, though I can't 100% vouch for it yet...

According to a user on Flickr, the thread at the end of the lens will take a 40.5 mm filter, without the need
for that tube and hood thing that Fuji make for it.

I am going to pop down to my local Photo retailer on Friday and check it out. They have a Kood circular polariser
of that size for 18 quid.
They also have step up rings that go from that size, so they may be useful too if indeed the 40.5mm fits.

I did read somewhere that the thread was 39.5mm so I am not too sure yet ( though the picture on Flickr did have
a filter on the camera... )

That rather expensive tube and hood thing!

I wonder if attaching a filter directly to the lens will result in any vignetting?

Apparently not. Someone asked that very question on Flickr, and the filter that was fitted wasn't slimline or anything.

No doubt there will be a few alternatives on Amazon as there is for the X100.

I`m not to concerned with filters at the mo, I`m more interested in getting a soft release Smile

I got THIS ONE via ebay today - it'll do the job - certainly better than the old Nikon soft case I've been using! The back doesn't open all the way as it does with the posh leather job so maybe one day I might invest in one - but not just yet.....
