i need anew camera, at the moment im lending a sony cybershot, (yes im a beginner) but i need a camera of my own

i dont have much money to spend on a camer at all really, only like 150 quid, and i saw the Fujifilm FinePix S5700, infact theres one on ebay and im not sure weather its worth it or not..

is this a good camera? some ppl have said it may have hutter lag problems? however all the reviews ive read have given it 5 out of 5

so..yay or nay, tight budget, limited technical knowladge, photography mainly a hobby..

is this camera good for me?

    thanks guys

    Hi Megan.
I'm sure someone will be along shortly to advise you on the 5700.
However I have noticed a Fuji S7000 here in the classified section that you may want to have a look at. (No it isn't mine before anyone thinks that)
The price looks good and you will still have a little bit left from your budget to buy a few bits and bobs to go with it.

the S7000 a fantastic camera to begin with. I still have one in my bag. It will give you some good control though it isn't a substitute for a DSLR. One thing it really excels in is macro work with the close focus being superb imho.

I would recommend it for your budget

Hi there, used to have one of these but didnt rate it too much.Maybe my fault.
However,I could reccomend the Fuji S7000.
I have had some fantastic photos with the S7000.
I guess it all depends on what you will be using the camera for.If you want to learn on it,how much of a novice you are etc.
I do think tho the S7000 is a great bridge camera, but maybe some would dissagree and have their own views.

You won't see any improvement in your pictures, you'd rue buying it, save the money instead for the entry level real SLR

oh dear i actually have a headache lol

    such conflicting views!

i love the fuji, i feel safe with it but i dont want to regret not buying a DSLR, then again does the amount of use id get out of it justify saving all that money for one, after all ill be back at uni soon and actually doing things with my time

then again if i had a better camera would it push me to want to take more pictures and improve? or will i still be scared to take pics in public..

    ha what a dilema

    argh!

I love my S7000 - shutter lag isn't an issue with the kind of stuff I photograph and from the shots currently in your porfolio wouldn't be an issue with you either.

Remember that with a DSLR you will need a range of lenses - more expense.
They get sensor dust and you need to clean them - more expense and hassle.

    Do you need a DSLR?
You really need to decide what you what to take photos of and set a budget accordingly.
It could be you need to spend a whole lot more, or you don't need to spend much above £100-£150.

Don't rush into buying something you may later regret as it could mean you have to wait longer for what you really do need.

I disagree with Chris in that I would think you could improve with the s7000 over a basic compact.

At the end of the day its up to you only you truly know what you want. £90 is a bargain for what you're getting and it would provide a good step to move on. The only way you are going to improve is practice practice practice. That will get you more skills than say reading loads of books or whatever. If you have a new camera in your hand that will provide you with incentive Smile.

You dont have the budget to go for a dslr yet so just go for the s7000 practice and save. £90 isnt too much

feel free to run away if im annoying you with my indecision, only £100 is alot of money to me at the moment.........

Maybe, but if she spends all her budget she can get an entry level SLR, might cost 40% more but will a factor of several times an improvement over the Sony Cybershot.

Having an SLR you can add to it year in year out with new lenses to continually improve it. How's she going to improve the Fuji? Apart from binning it and buying an SLR in the end anyway

Meg, buy one, if you use it for a couple of months and don't like it you can put it back on ebay, SLRs keep their value better than the compacts and bridge cameras

hmm thats a point.. although im not worried about having a DSLR the camera i do buy probably wont be upgraded for a few years so should i go with an DSLR so that i have something to last me for the future?

in that case is the s7000 a no no?
