i can get a good deal w/ a canon xt package

i just want to know how different in your minds is the quality of sigma to canon, i know by reputaion, canon is better, but how much, will i truly notice?

lenses are sigma 18-50 and 70-300
    or canon 18-55 and 75-300

the issue is that i get less things in the package if i go w/ canon lenses...but i just want to know how big the difference in quality is.

As far as the kit lenses are concerned, the Sigma's are much better quality!

Bob Atkins gave the Canon 18-55 a good review (for a kit lens) 18-55 Canon Review- and the Canon 75-300 is a great lens to start with for the longer focal lengths (make sure you get the USM version).

You can use the 75-300 on other EOS cameras, but the 18-55 will only fit those that take EF-S lenses (300D/Rebel, 350D/XT, and the 20D).

Don't know much about the Sigma lenses, but, having always bought Canon kit I am having my opinion of 3rd party equipment changed by a recent purchase (Tamron 17-35).

Go to a store and play with them is best advice - you may hate the feel of one = decision made!

I can't tell you about 18-50(55) but Sigma 70-300mm APO is a decent lens, although the focusing is slow and noisy in comparison with Canon 75-300 USM. I always recommend 100-300mm USM over 75-300 as it's a better quality lens with more features.

I have always used a mixture of sigma and canon lenses and neither can be faulted. There is not a lot of difference in quality, (I can't tell the difference)
As long as you stay away from the bottom of the range lenses you'll be fine.

The Sigma 10-20mm super wide angle lens looks interesting should be about 300 ish when it comes out.

ive used sigma lenses professionally for the last two years and found them very good

just changed back to canon because of a contractual obligation and cant really see any noticeable differences
in the field with the exception of the 70-200 IS
at the cheaper end i would say sigma are probably better

interesting... the other thing i was worried about was that the cannon lenses are both 58mm while the sigmas are two different sizes, which sorta means i may need to purchase more filters than if i go w/ canon...thoughts on that anyone?

now its not like i dislike 3rd party lenses, my last camera was a 300d w/ a tamron 28-300....and you know what, i loved it!
