I'm happy to fill the gap of 9th - 15th July if still needed Pete?
Thanks for the opportunity again Pete. Once again it opened my eyes to a lot more genres than I would normally look at.

IMPORTANT INSTRUCTIONS
When you log in on that week you will have a new button under the photo that allows you to select Guest Editor awards for pictures.
Please look at all photos uploaded to the gallery in your allocated week and only select the photos you think are outstanding - it's quality over quantity please. Also please do not just select pictures from your favorite genres or ones uploaded by your connections or friends. We are looking for an unbiased selection. If you don't feel you can meet any of this criteria please stand down.
The button becomes active at 0:00 on Monday and runs right through the week and stays active on the following Monday so you can catch up with Sunday's uploads
many thanks
As my week of being GE draws to an end, I feel like putting some thoughts and observations into print. (I choose to write this now as tomorrow will be too hectic.)
It has been a memorable week, for sure. In order to be able to concentrate as much as possible on the task in hand, I sent mrs. salty off to Nice for 5 days and re-arranged the coffee table in front of the sofa so that I had all I needed in easy reach.![]()
Some things that have struck me this week. None of this is in any way critisism, nor meant in a negative way, merely thoughts that have popped into my head along the way.
The lambing season is obviously over for this time and has been replaced by fields of golden rape, mostly under a dark and moody sky, as well as an outbreak of Stitchwart in epidemic proportions. Birds on sticks will always be found in profound numbers, the vast majority beautifully captured and presented, with a few even being allowed to retain their original background as provided by Mother Nature.
I didn't know there were so many different butterflies in the world!
Apart from some excellent images from a motorcycle race meet, together with a brief glimpse inside the new olympic stadium in Londinium and a muddy event at Kettering, there was a noticeable lack of motorsports and sports / athletic events in general. Perhaps it is too early in the year for these subjects?
The quality of the images being offered have a range of quality to be expected. From the ordinary family snap level up the the very pinnacle of excellence. What was clear was that all who posted felt that they were pleased with the result and they felt the image was worth sharing. That is the most important thing.
Which brings me to the next point. Why do so many people upload without any information at all? No EXIF, no notes on what the image was, location, nothing about what they had in mind, Nil, Zilch, Nothing. It is frustrating to look at an image and think "how was that taken" and not have any EXIF or info from the poster.
Very often I found myself looking at an image and wondering...
Quite a few images fell short due of lack of attention to detail - cropped too closely, dust bunnies, intrusive background areas that should have been cloned out or toned down, etc. It seems the vast majority of people think of these things before posting, but not all.
(I actually pm'd 4 members (all had joined fairly recently) and explained that their image would have received a GEA if this or that had been altered/improved. All four thanked me for taking the time to write to them, and I feel I have helped them in a small way.)
All in all I have been amazed every day by the skills, both with the camera and in post processing, and the imagination of the members. The ability to see an everyday scene or object and to envisage how it can be altered or improved into something special. Impressive.
I have consistantly viewed every image without looking at who the poster is, although certain members have a unique style and it is easy to spot them amongst the thumbnails.
I was pleased, on several occasions, to discover after giving the award, that the image also received an HC or EC, something which reassured me in some of my choices. There are certainly several (a lot?) of images I awarded that will have some people scratching their head, but at the end of the day, it was my choice.
Sorry for the very long post, but I wanted to put it all on record.
It has been intense, rewarding, educational and thoroughly enjoyable.
Would I do it again? Yes...but not when I have to go to work every day as i did this week.![]()
Thank you Pete, and thank you all who have uploaded these marvellous images.

Right, that's me done - thanks again, Pete.

@simonbowen - enjoy the week.

Pete - this weeks GE simonbowen hasn't logged on since 9th April.
I think you need a stand-in. I can't do 2 weeks running. (Not certain you would want one more week of my choices
)

Maybe in future the guest editor for the upcoming week should be contacted a couple of days before, just to ensure they are still OK. There have been a couple of occasions recently where there have been problems, mainly from those who only infrequently use EPZ. Had I not been away for few days I would have volunteered to step in, alas I won't be home until Friday evening.

I contacted him a few weeks before and yesterday and he's supposedly on to it.
Does anyone else have the time to take the slot and browse back to Monday?
Also all the people on the list now have been confirmed but there are several names on there that I'm not familiar with and it bothers me that this lack of turning up has become frequent. It's all since we put out a request for GE in the newsletter which attracted a great response but from many without photos in portfolios and regular log ins.
Do we have members who could stand in a short notice? It doesn't matter if you've done it before.
Hi Pete
If you have future problems I can step in at short notice........you only have to ask.......![]()
