Many on here do earn a living from photography, if you can call it a living....

I don't think KeithH does portraits - but he lives a life of sheer hedonistic luxury on the proceeds of his photography work.

..................or so it is rumoured! ;-D

Strange question Ron, as your portfolio seems to be mainly Portrait photographs!

You can learn alot from this forum. Also have a look at the FPME website (see the advert below the menu on the left).

there must be lots of work out there for 'non portrait' photographers - but I think most people will agree that they tend to do a range of things to earn a living ....
myself - I get a bizzare range of stuff - one day I'll be doing a models portfolio the next I may be teaching a studio class, then I may be designing a spaceship in 3d graphics or taking snapshots of drunken idiots in nightclubs.
I think these days many people, including myself, have to diversify to survive, but maybe thats what makes the job interesting too!

... or you could end up doing something really boring like taking pictures of sofas for a living .... imagine who'd want to ever do that!! Wink

Thanks Paul for pulling this back on topic (sorry everyone)

Ron - I think we need to start off with what type of photography are you interested in marketing? Once we start with that we can start to think about potential markets.

It rather depends on what you mean by "making money from photography" Ron.

I made a whole 249 profit last year (after tax that is! Smile - with not one Portrait included in the sales.

Mind you, I would have been pretty hungry trying to live on that.

I suspect there are quite a lot of us who can cover our costs with a small margin of profit on a part-time basis, but to make a living as a professional photographer strikes me as an extremely difficult and demanding career choice

make good money from photographing horses at events and a tiny bit of money from surf photography
