wondering if any one on this site has made money from photography without portrait pics and can give a bit of encouragement to newcomers like me

Many on here do earn a living from photography, if you can call it a living....
I don't think KeithH does portraits - but he lives a life of sheer hedonistic luxury on the proceeds of his photography work.
..................or so it is rumoured! ;-D
not looking good lol .......there has got to be more hope than that ...still got dreams i will keep this talk going 4 a few days so any one getting into it nos what there getting into
Strange question Ron, as your portfolio seems to be mainly Portrait photographs!
You can learn alot from this forum. Also have a look at the FPME website (see the advert below the menu on the left).
Sadly, CB....I do portraits.....in true hedonistic style..it's for a TV company.
Hhhh yes, I remember one or two sinful portraits in your portfolio Keith!
Hey....I've never posted any of you naked.....unless you say I can that is.
naked? maybe I missed one!
No, I was refering to a title not a subject.
(no you can't by the way)
LOL......mmmmm...maybe time to delete that one....
...so you pose nekid for all the boys but me....so unfair.
That would be a shame Keith.
PS - don't understand your second line at all.
there must be lots of work out there for 'non portrait' photographers - but I think most people will agree that they tend to do a range of things to earn a living ....
myself - I get a bizzare range of stuff - one day I'll be doing a models portfolio the next I may be teaching a studio class, then I may be designing a spaceship in 3d graphics or taking snapshots of drunken idiots in nightclubs.
I think these days many people, including myself, have to diversify to survive, but maybe thats what makes the job interesting too!
... or you could end up doing something really boring like taking pictures of sofas for a living .... imagine who'd want to ever do that!!
Thanks Paul for pulling this back on topic (sorry everyone)
Ron - I think we need to start off with what type of photography are you interested in marketing? Once we start with that we can start to think about potential markets.
It rather depends on what you mean by "making money from photography" Ron.
I made a whole £249 profit last year (after tax that is! - with not one Portrait included in the sales.
Mind you, I would have been pretty hungry trying to live on that.
I suspect there are quite a lot of us who can cover our costs with a small margin of profit on a part-time basis, but to make a living as a professional photographer strikes me as an extremely difficult and demanding career choice
make good money from photographing horses at events and a tiny bit of money from surf photography
