I recently had a crash, lost most things including my scanner. I have just tried to re-install the scanner software.
When I insert the original CD, I get the message under the heading: windows 16 bit sub-system.
c:\WINNT\system32\autoexecnt System file is not suitable for running msdos or windows applications
I tried downloading the latest software from the web, but on clicking "setup" I got the same message.
It used to work? Can anybody help?
I am running W2K with all the updates. I reinstalled the system some weeks ago, and everything else appears to be working. I had not bothered to re-install the Artixscan 4000T as I was packing everything up to move house. Decided I needed it, and just tried re-install today.

Try this
It mentions XP, but that and Win2000 are based on NT (so it could be suitable).
You will need your Win2000 disk.
I am interested to know if you have solved your problem with installing the scanner as I have had a similar problem. I had the computer formatted a few weeks ago, got all my programmes back on, working quite well, but when I decided to use my scanner and reinstalled the software I got exactly the same message as you did. I rang PC World helpline and they told me to download a different driver which I did but this also gives me the same message.
Have you solved your problem?
Sandra
Hi Andrew. Your link did only apply to XP, but through it, I found a link to the problem in W2K, the syntax changes, but I seem to be entering it incorrectly. This is the site.
I am entering : expand H:\i386\config.nt_c:\winnt\system32\config.nt sometimes without the underscore after config.nt, but I keep getting the error message "no destination specified"
Can you help with my syntax please - or am I missing something?
Jeremy
Hi Sandra. Andrew's information has seemed to point right at the problem. Se if you can do any better with the link I found (if you are running W2K,) if you have XP, try Andrew's link.
Jeremy
This should be the correct syntax
expand H:\i386\config.nt_ c:\winnt\system32\config.nt
Notice the space just after the "nt_" and before the "c:"
The command "expand" needs to know the source file "H:\i386\config.nt_" and the destination file "c:\winnt\system32\config.nt". The space separates these filenames.
BINGO!!! - It worked, & my scanner software is now installed.
Glad you were around tonight Andrew. Hope it works for you too Sandra - Now off to play!
Many thanks,
Jeremy
No problem Jeremy, glad to be of help.
Windoze has so many problems that (to their credit) Micro$oft set up quite good support services. It would be better if Micro$oft could write an operating system that worked properly thought.
