A few tips for starters:
Avoid using the 10-22mm at the wide end with flash as you will get a shadow of the lens and uneven flash coverage.
If you are shooting in daylight try using the window light to take the pictures. It looks more natural.
Ask your daughter to stand in front of the window but with enough room for you to see her face from the window side. If you are positioned on the window wall you can get good light on the side of her face that's facing the window. Use a reflector to fill in shadow areas. If you don't have a reflector use a sheet of white paper, or some cooking foil.
1. Use a tripod if you can
2. Set to aperture priority
3. Generally the flash will sync. at 1/60th. You should be able to set a slow sync speed that allows it to sync lower. This will allow more ambient light into the shot
4. Use the available light where you can.
5. Try taping a piece of tissue paper to the pop up flash. This will help soften it
Thank's for the tips I will give it a go ,cheers.

I use one of my daughter's old white ankle socks and, if need be, a rubber band.
Works a treat and you can keep it in your bag/pocket.
It might be a bit late now - and not something you have to hand - but one of those opaque film canisters work well. Cut a slot in the side large enough to pop it over the flash - stick (maybe glue) the lid back on the cannister and presto....
