Hi from Teesside

9 Mar 2009 10:49PM
I will shortly be purchasing a digital slr and hopefully can learn to take some good photos. I am still not certain which camera to buy, so any comments as a beginner would be most welcome

Hi Frank,
I'm from Hartlepool. Must say your cat photos are great.
I'm just starting in photography, all looks a bit confusing at the moment as to which camera to buy. Maybe the Canon 1000D
cheers
Tom

Hi Tom, welcome to EPZ.

Canon? Good choice. Take no notice of any of those Nikon-ites, you can't trust anyone with a beard and sandals. Wink

STOP!

Think about this really carefully, there really is only one 'system' to buy.........NIKON.

The best on the block at the moment, and has been producing top quality lenses for decades. If you choose the camera body carefully (perhaps a secondhand D80) you will be able to get yourself some compatible secondhand Nikkor lenses for really reasonable money, an example being the 80-200 AF ED f2.8D which I got for £250 !! f2.8 across the whole zoom range and it gives me an equivalent 120-300mm when you take into account the sensor crop factor, all at f2.8....for the money its superb and very sharp.

But whatever you do....DON'T BUY A CANON!! Cheap and nasty things they are!!

Oh, and welcome to EPZ Wink

Thanks Funkeldink,
the Boro are struggling at the moment. Even as a "Monkey hanger" I don't want to see them go down

Thanks Stevel,
it seems like that both Nikon and Canon have strong support. I'm going to a local shop tomorrow to get have a look see.

best regards
Tom
