Well Mr Burton, having seen the s***pot you have stirred here I have come to the following conclusions..
A, You are very good at stating the obvious.
B,You obviously have a great contempt for the voting system even though that same buddy system is apparent from your own portfolio votes where several names appear frequently and whose work receives your attention equally regularly thereby topping up your figures. And the most frequently used comment " great portrait "which doesn't really say any more than " nice picture " does it ?
C, Rather than try to improve the site by adding helpful comments to other peoples shots (something which you could do as judging by some of your better work you do have the talent and photographic ability to qualify a critique) you prefer to whinge and berate the system here in the forums.
Only you know why you chose to make a mockery of the site by doing what you did and by starting this thread but I feel it may be a shot in the foot as I and many others it seems will be ignoring you and your uploads from now on. Likewise the names of those who have added childish, ageist, aggressive and downright unbelievable comments have been equally noted and will no doubt receive the same treatment.

I'll bet he'll be relieved to hear that. Some of your better work does show promise too, so keep at it!

and that is the quintessential source of a "nice pic" comment, must say something nice at all costs, even if you feel the thing in question is wrong and could be improved...no matter, you should keep schtum... well done.
Quote: You'd think that some of you at least could find something more important to be getting on with
indeed - though I thought my last point was quite valid and informative
guess that's what no f**ker bothered mentioning it
I can give you the URL to a site on which I post that is only interested in the species of dragonfly in your photo, where and when it was taken, and could give a sweet ---- about photo quality, if that's your cup of tea.
I also post on a site where one is not permitted to use the words shoot, shot, capture, as they might offend someone. The critiques are all done by some of North America's top pro wildlife togs, btw.
We get so entrenched in rules, and what the next person is doing, that we can't see the forest for the trees. I rejoined E2 a while back, determened to make my experiences here fun again, and I'm working on it, but it's a steep uphill struggle. Maybe one would enjoy the site much more without a forum.
Btw, if I'm not mistaken, Pete did this same experiment a couple of years ago, using a different account and username. I don't think it was that well received, though I could be wrong.

I once saw an image of four blokes in a field, and I'm sure it had an EC it wasn't that long ago but I cant find it again, I'm still confused did I really see an EC on it or was it my mind playing tricks on me? anyway the image in my opinion was simply awful . can it be because I am not up there yet and don't fully understand it..
whatever, the point is we all see things different and appreciate them differently, also we express ourselves differently depending on our own particular level of photography.
Ade your comment is a valid but I didn't realise you needed a reply to it though as usual i do have one
The work you describe is very select and somewhat specialised because of its difficulty and so will never be the mainstay of a site such as this though from what I see it does when it comes along get recognised by those capable of spotting it. On the whole though the site is poulated by people such as myself who have a modicum of knowhow and generally takes pictures of the things they see and have to hand.
I for example take most of my pictures on my day off and usually have a run out somewhere with the idea of taking some pics but not necessarily of anything in particular and often return with nothing, other times I just come across a particular scene or subject that appeals, hence the variety in my pf. That I guess is what happens for the majority of peope on here other than those who are full or part time pros. So it is logical then that the majority of shots on here will not be more than snapshots, landscapes or the flowers in someones garden.
You therefore with your craving to see better than that will have a harder time finding something you like or merit worthwhile saying something about.
Neither of us is right or wrong but we both have to find some middle ground at times to keep things happy for want of a better word.
