Hi I didn't know where to post and have been googling for a week to buy a reliable Slide Show App.
I need one that has audio/fade Sync.
No conversion from MP3 from our CD's as we are baby boomers and are not into MP3 d/l.
We want to be able to include scanned 35 mm stored pics in the show and maybe some video clips down the road as I am a camcorder user.
I would like to add the Title and some intro comments etc.
I would like the program to be able to have stability in volume of the CD's as I know often times they are mixed differently.
I have looked at so many and I don't want to wrestle with conversion. I reviewed Photdex Gold in so many Forums and see people who have problems.
My OS is XPsp2. Toshiba 1 gig, 1.86, about a year and half old anda 160 gig ext storage unit as I still get my pics printed.
I have 3 burners BenQ 162I and a Sony which is really a BenQ and I am very pleased with their quality.
Just need a user friendly Photo Slide Show that is reliable and does not give me a glitch half way etc,
I am an audiophile and have a large collection of CD's that I will use.
I don't want the hassle of converting with Windows Media Player etc.
I would like to buy a decent program with a small learning curve.
That is what I am all about.
I look forward to replies.
Thank you for your interest and time.
I have had no issues with Photodex Proshow Gold and would recommend it. There is also a forum where the support is very good "proshowenthusiasts".

Hi, how long have you been using the App and wondered if it will do what I described. I want to use it to do slideshows to send as gifts as I have with my camcorder dvd's of family events which everyone in our family enjoys.
As stated I need a program with a short learning curve and a tutorial would be an pleasant asset. I have viewed comments on the program and seen some sour comments on the cost and the freezing of the App and miscellaneous other problems, however myself I am a keen reader and practice a lot.
And comments from a user like yourself would be appreciated.
I do volunteer work at a Seniors residence and could see how I could brighten many peoples lives with a short slide show off and on that does not take a lot of time to learn.
How long did this app take you to learn it.
I viewed the reviews on photo slide shows and found a site with tons of slide shows but a lot of limitations.
Does this app have good control over consistency of volume and no freeze ups after you get it completed?
That seemed to be one of the major critiques.
I will be using it with a Stand alone dvd Player and as well likely with an overhead projector and my notebook.
I really would appreciate members comments on this App. They are far more valuable than reviews.
Thx for your interest. I am eager to get started and get presents ready for Christmas.
Any comments re the Pros of this App and the Cons would sincerely be appreciated.
Again, thank you
Was just about to post a thread about problems I'm having with ProShow Gold!! Struggling to create a DVD with over 50 images in the slide show. It locks up after 60-70% of the slideshow has been created. I've reduced the images to 1000 pixels by the longest side, visited the ProShow forum and tried what they suggested - still no success!!
Anyone use anything different, as PSG is driving me nuts at the moment!
Thanks Rob
Sorry for hijacking your thread
When it works, it's easy to use and the end product is good but it can be a 'dog' to use at times as the PSG forum shows.
I have used this
Well the Gold version anyway
I found it pretty simple but then I work in IT.
I haven't used it for a while but I think it does what you want.
The trouble is that anything worth it's salt won't have an easy learning curve because in order to do so it would be too simple for your needs (which are quite specific)
To do what you want I would use Sony's Video Vegas (indeed I have) but it has a very steep learning curve and costs a fortune.
For instance
Quote: I would like the program to be able to have stability in volume of the CD's as I know often times they are mixed differently.
I'm not sure that any cheap simple program will have a normalise function for the sound (I may be wrong)
ProShow Gold will do all you ask.
I have been using it for a numbe of years and have had no problems. You also have the option to create shows for e-mailing, putting onto You-tube and the Photodex site as well as putting onto CD, DVD etc.
You can download a trial version although that will have a banner across it but it is a fully functional trial.
I normally use Adobes Encore DVD 2, It great but has a seriously steep learning curve & it's not cheap......!
The quality though is first class.......!
That said I have also used the slideshow utility in the Disc writing suite called " Roxio Easy Media Creator Version 10 " This is now a pretty good, Straight forward program, And dead easy to use.....!
Both image & audio quality are very good.
Do not be tempted with the earlier versions of Roxio ie: 9 & 8 etc, As the slideshow feature was complete pants........![]()
The version 10 software was rewritten by " Sonic " and is almost as good as the Adobe product, Without all the glitche's & hassles some have found with Pro Show Gold etc........!
You may be having problems with Proshow due to lack of RAM. I had the same problem with just 1gig, bought another gig and no more problems.
It is a memory hungry program when burning.
Another vote for pro show gold, i have it and though it can be sluggish when rendering hi res files i find it very good when the resolution of the images is dropped to 72dpi it will sync the length of the show to the music though i think you may well need to rip your cds before hand
I really appreciate the comments and do not feel that the earlier member hi-jacked the thread. I have done so much reading on the Pro Show Gold in other Forums as well and when I came across this Forum I thought that it would be one to ask questions about the App in as there is a lot of experience here. I had seen many comments regarding the Pro Show Gold where after people tried it out and then bought it the glitches started. It was this "freezing" issue that I have seen mentioned many times.
By the previous member, I take it that I have to burn all of the pics to my HDD, which in my case is the maximum that I can have and that is 2 gigs now.
I store my pics in 2 (160 gig) external hdd, one that is at another location in the event of a fire etc.
I don't plan on storing all of my photos nor do I plan on doing a lot of slideshows. Five second pics on the screen with fades and music and say 250 pics for the odd project that I can use in my volunteer work would likely be what I would want.
I have looked at the Sony Vegas software, however did not know much about it and spoke with a fellow in the store who said he bought it and used it but found that it was extremely difficult to feel like a hobbyist with it as he felt doing his slide show with it was a "make work project" and he laughed heartily !
I look forward very much to other comments from members here who are very professional in their approach and I respect that. Thank you once again. This is a quality forum!
The last member mentioned that I may need to Rip my CD's before hand. I gather that to mean that I would choose each individual CD that I want to use and have to rip it to the HDD and store as an example in a Music file?
Just thought that I should ask. Thx
Have you tried the Windows Movie Maker as supplied with Windows XP??
Pete Bargh supplied a tutorial here
Also, if you are using the music for other than your own personal use, I think you'll need a licence or perhaps you could use royalty free music?

I highly recommend PHOTO STORY PLATINUM which is easy to use yet creative software to turn photos and songs to stunning slideshow and share on Youtube, mobile devices or burn CD/DVDs.
It has the power to leave someone breathless and offers much simplicity but although a perfect professional result.
I get it a few days ago and it really easy-to-use.
Find samples and tutorial from its official website:
http://www.ourpix.com/photo-story.html
hope it helps.
Having never used Proshow Gold I bought it and the first show I out together contained 840 slides with music. It is dead easy to use but as has been said you need at least 2gig of Ram. I only had 1gig at the time and it did freeze on occasions.
I have since bought a new computer and have 2gig of RAM plus Core 2 Quad 8600 processor, no problems at all now.
I store all my shots on two external western digital hard drives. Proshow Gold proved to be one of the easiest bits of software I have ever come across to use from scratch. Any music you want to add needs to be on your hard drive. Everything is drag and drop and sychronisation is very simple.
As far as ripping CD's goes, you can rip the individual tracks required usin WMP, Roxio or Nero. No need to rip the album.
