Ok guys - let your imaginations run riot.
Late this afternoon, I was informed by a keen eyed fellow photographer that one of my images had been offered to a picture buyer making a request through a well know stock agency but the author was not me!
Obviously I started to investigate and managed to obtain the details of the perpetrator including name, address and even telephone number.
The agency people contacted him and he says that his pictures are in fact supplied to him by his son (seems to get worse and worse) who has admitted downloading them from websites (I am not sure yet if ePz is one of them).
It transpires that this guy has sold quite a few images recently - it begs the question - whose images are they? I have been lucky this time, but I wonder whose work has been ripped off.
Although this is a serious matter and I am pursuing it , I thought it would be fun to let the ePz jury decide an appropriate sentence for his theft. Be as creative as you like (this is only meant as fun as my real redress will be via my solicitor) but what do you think is an appropriate form of punishment.

Make him a moderator on ePz. He must personally answer all questions concerning clicks, cliques, EC's, RC's, HC's, how to make borders, Canon or Nikon which is best.....ad infinitum.
Seriously though, go get 'em tiger!
The thing I was thinking of I got tricked into doing today was so awful I can't actually repeat it. Its far worse than the david hasselhoff thing.
God what a scumbag....
Dunno what id do with him! lol
Small Claims Court as a starting possiblity, and if costs are involved...Solicitor's etc...Claim those as well.
Either way, I'd take legal advice, sounds to me like you have a case against the pair of em'
THEN HANG EM' HIGH!
How about branding your copyright on them! Sounds a bit extreme but this sort of thing really makes my blood boil. It's hard enough to make money from photography without people ripping you off. I don't suppose they were members of BAPLA? If they were I would report them.
You can get some pretty funky watermarking software these days. Can put full details in transparent watermark which can be detected at a later date - even by scanning in from hard copy. Doesn't stop them doing it - just makes it easier to catch and prove!
By the testicles.....with their modem leads......Take piccy, post every possible place you can think of on the internet!.........GRRRRRRR
Let Ade at him! LOL
May he be infested buy a thousand fleas and his fingers turn to fishooks
high velocity lead poisoning of the kneecaps?
Gets my vote over ASBOs any time.
I'm a bit puzzled by this - presumably you don't put full res. pictures on the net do you? But surely an agency would want full res., so how did he/they get hold of it?
I don't put high res images up anywhere but the trouble is, images posted on ePz for instance at 1000 pixels are big enough to be saved as TIFFs and sold. They can even be put through GF to quite a suprisising degree without a huge quality loss (particularly if it is a good quality image to start with).
I know people in the past have said website photos are not good for anything else but this is not strictly true. The majority of stock images are used for editorial 'fillers' and a 500px image will easily be suitable for something like this and a 1000 pixel image is obviously even more marketable.
In this instance though, the quality of his version was just dreadful and so it was unlikely to have been sold to the client but the potential is there and the fact that he has tried to do it at all is extremely worrying (particularly, as I say, he has apparently sold a fair few images already).
I would name him but as I am going down the legal route I don't want to prejudice anything that might happen but I have asked Pete to see if he is a member at ePz
Thanks for the suggestions for cruel and unusual punishment by the way!

I think that's one thing you can't actually claim for with a small claim in the County Court [legal costs], but BH knows all that stuff.
I think I'd just use the law, as that'll make them understand that it's not a game. Harumph. There again, there are people here who have openly admitted to stealing software..
If you want I can cast a spell that will give him the most awful itching rash all over his dangly bits.
Just out of interest Merl, how many ePz members have you already cast this spell on?
