Israel to stop water fluoridation because of health risks

I've just read that the Israeli policy of compulsory water fluoridation is to be phased out by next year after a legal challenge highlighted adverse health risks associated with the fluoride. Several places in the US are also starting to phase it out for similar reasons.

And what are these health risks?

The most serious are said to include:

1. Lowered IQ

2. Brittle bones and teeth

3. Damage to Thyroid

One of the reasons that they are removing it is because they want to target sections of the community who would benefit from fluoride rather than hit a mass market, many of whom do not drink tap water anyway.

Not quite the same is it.

Interesting.
A legal challenge highlights health risks, but have any medical authorities published any conclusive findings about the long-term effects of fluoridation?

Yes what are these health Risk.

Fir starters fluoride naturally occurs in water in varying amounts, in parts of the country were levels are low the drinking water is topped up with fluoride.

Fluoride is harmful but only at high levels, much higher than the levels found in water and tooth paste.

Considering the length of time we have had fluoridation, shouldn't we be seeing an epidemic of these issues ?
Seems little evidence of it being a problem to me.

We are more at risk of other additives being added to the water supply in large quantities Smile

Think they're hopelessly optimistic if the intention is to raise the IQ of the population by removing
Flouride, and its the least of the hazards faced in Israel.
Better education and diet might be a more realistic starting point.

The Israeli Supreme Court judgement noted the fact that the Health Minister of Israel had voluntarily agreed to phase out fluoridating water after several months of stalling tactics. The 'benefits' of adding fluoride to protect childrens health in that they ever existed at all are far outweighed by the dangers to peoples health, particularly chronically ill people and those with thyroid problems. If these so called 'benefits' you mention are so widely accepted then why do most countries in the world not compulsorily fluoridate...the US fluoridated population comprises about half of the entire world number... One thing is sure though, without this legal challenge the authorities in Israel would not voluntarily have agreed to its removal. It will take a legal challenge in this country for the same thing to happen here

Sorry but I fail to see the dangers of fluoride to people suffering from Thyroid conditions and diseases.

Nah, nobody's noticed '2. Brittle bones and teeth' or '3. Damage to Thyroid' because of '1. Lowered IQ' Smile

Apparently Fluoride is linked with an increased risk of hardened arteries (atheroschlerosis) and thus with cardiovascular disease...some studies have gone further and found a direct causal link between the amount of fluoride consumed and the severity of the above condition. Loads of information about this online if you are interested.
