    do what I do

Look at the pic - comment without looking at what others have said...

other people's comments will influence what you look at - and may even stop you looking at the photo with an open mind.

    hang on...

if you're commenting and not reading the existing comments, how can you end up not saying anything at all.... you've already commented? Wink

Repetition of the same points in this game is positive - it reinforces the point... if 10 people say the same thing, then its probably a good/bad point. If just one says it, their either very insightful, or may have a dodgy monitor

so the more repetition you get the more accurate the assessment.

Fair enough, I just didn't want to be frowned upon for saying what in essence maybe the same thing as a few others..........I get enough stick for all the commenting I do in the galleries Tongue

Quote: I am finding difficult to not repeat the things that might have already been said on some of the images.......And I don't want to really be seen as being plageriaristic in my comments......

The way I've done it is view the pic, right click on the add comment and open in a new window, have pic up in one window and comment box in other, make comments, and then look at what others have said after I've made my six points. That way there's no influence on anything.

Lol I've only just read the rule that you have to comment without looking at what others have said.

it's not really a rule, more a guide...

if you look at the existing comments they will draw your attention to those flaws and muddy your judgement

have fun - you may struggle to find 3 of each, but that's yin yang Wink

.... however, one of the rule is that if you comment you MUST UPLOAD A PHOTO to the group for others to comment on

Look forward to seeing your offering Chris Wink

Ok i have made two lots of comments on two photos , so now i'll stick one up for comments.

and yes i like the idea and i think it can work if people just make abit of effort, but i think it's important to note that people may well repeat whats been said after afew comments by other posters. Having said that everyone should get some good feed back .

    nice on Bloggs

    try this....

don't look at other people's comments at all

you can open 2 browsers - one with the photo showing, the other with the comment box... you have to quickly scroll down to the comment box so you don't read what's there.

    Advantages...

    your view is un-influenced
you comment how you would normally do
if a flaw comes up many times, the photo owner gets the point reinforced.

    Couple of questions Ade:

    1. Is it ok to upload a photo that was uploaded previously in the Critique Gallery, and then improved upon due to the advice received there.

    2. I'm a beginner and feel a bit uncomfortable critiquing images of some fantastic photographers - I do have my opinions but not much technical knowledge - I'd like to join up and have a go but wondered if this group was targeted at every level on EPZ, or just people who have a certain level of expertise.

    Cheers

    Elaine

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, all you need to do is 3 bullet points each of what you like & don't like about an image. OK, with a "fantastic photographer" submit you may struggle with 3 "don't likes" but even they don't make the "perfect " photograph.
    Go for it!
