I was ordering the BH3 and a lens plate, when I happened to come across this? I had been breaking my head so far, and almost purchased a Pan and Tilt head just to be able to make smooth transitions when I use my 5DMKII for video purposes..
Here is the link link
There is a 30 day money back guarantee and I think this seems to personally make sense as investment compared to the L bracket, as I'm sure, I'm going to use this more frequently.... but 150 $ is a lot of money.... for a handle...
Given that the video mode on the 5D II is so crippled (perhaps deliberately, so as to offer a better one on future 1-series Canons) you have to ask yourself: is it really worth sending money on accessories for something which gives you less control than the cheapest pocket camcorder?
I'm sure the 5D II is fine for short clips for the web etc, but if you want to record a concert or a long speech or any other event where continuity is important (and a tripod becomes essential) - forget it. In HD mode you are limited to 12 minutes, making it useless for such a purpose. Also you have no control over shutter speed, aperture or ISO.
Personally I wouldn't waste your money. Hardly an essential, or even useful accesory for videoing, at least in in my humble opinion.
You'd be better off putting your money towards a decent fluid video head if you envisage doing a bit of video in the future.
I use a Manfrotto 501 video head which cost a fraction over £100.
As dedicated video heads go this is only entry level kit, you can spend several thousand pounds on a head alone, but it serves it's purpose superbly. I have no problem following action and getting smooth pan's with it when using a camcorder and an added bonus is it's substantial enough to take the weight of a heavy camera and long prime lens.
I believe the 501 may have been superceded my a newer model, but well worth a look IMO.
If you particularly want one of those Kirk handle things you can pick up something similar that does an identical job, although nowhere near as posh looking, from a car boot sale or camera shop selling old used accesories. I paid all of about 50 pence for one.
They used to be used with the older cameras to hold a flash to the side.

I was showing my film maker mate the 5D specs and he thought it was pretty good for movies, but useless for his needs because of the codec it uses to compress the film. He needs 25 full frames every second to do his editing, the codec doesn't give you that, though it is one of the best quality codecs around.
I was asking him because I thought using a lenbaby may be an interesting lens to use for filming.
I'm pretty interested in the 5D2, I want to see how useful Live View is with the lensbaby composer - finding the "sweet-spot" can be tricky even through a normal 5D's lovely bright viewfinder.

LOL that is not a bad idea.... ![]()
I have a separate camcorder for but over the years, I have come to realise that hardly anybody is comfortable around a camcorder ...and most of the time, i just end up taking several short clips !! My use has been akin to a PS camera, so far.
I completely agree the need for manual controls in the 5DMkII.I am not too inclined to purchase a video head, as I am not seriously into capturing videos compared to photography... but the price for a handle is a no brainer !! I'm pretty sure I'm paying close to 100 USD just because of the "Made in USA" tag.... I am looking at a cost effective usable solution to be able to take short clips using the same ball head, its too much trouble switching heads and QR systems for Stills to Video.
5D Mark II Test Shoot at Beach
This is just about what I intend to shoot when i travel, for playing it on my plasma back home. I'm struggling to get HD content to the plasma...

I think the screens on the backs of camera`s are way too small for viewing lensbaby shots at 100% ![]()
This would be great I should imagine, especially for landscapes or architecture.
Check out the remote Live View feature ![]()

May I ask which cheapest pocket camcorder has manual control of aperture, shutter speed and ISO?
Ade, it is interesting to see how the lensbaby works with LV of 5D MKII. Please keep us posted.

It would work in the same way as any other dslr with Live view
The thing is Lensbabies have a very pronounced sweet spot, quite unlike any other lens.
Although you can zoom in when viewing in live mode I find it not that good with LB`S since you need to see the effect of the sweet spot in balance to the whole pic.
