I see Digistor.co.uk has the KM 5D for 550 (6.95 next day delivery) including the new 18-70 lens for "August delivery". Looks like a good deal.
It's a great deal, especially, with the 18-70 lens. Think the viewfinders slightly different, but has all the other advantages of the 7D in a smaller body. Should attract all Minolta users who didn't, subscribe to the 7D. Maybe a few others as well. Great chance to use Digital & Film bodies, with their Minolta lenses. Think they have been available on Ebay, from Hong Kong for a few weeks.
Wonder if the 7D will have an update and what about a 9D?

The 9D pro model is to be announced at PMA next year (early Feb). The 7D is being updated shortly after apparently, probably early spring next year - new sensor more pixels.
This sounds like a fantastic deal, at last there are finally more rivals to Canon and Nikon. Hopefully KM and Pentax and Olympus will continue to innovate and offer great value for money. If nothing else it will at least make the DSLRs cheaper in the future.
How long before a 6-8mp DSLR costs 300- not long if the current situation is anything to go by. Reductions from 900 to 480-500 in a little over a year.
Hopefully the magazines will be favorable to other makes and not just Canon and Nikon. The only problem with the *ist DS is slow autofocus, yet it gets 3 out of 5 stars. If that is the only critiscism then surely deserves at least 4 starts (this month's PP)
Still back on topic the 5D looks like a tantalising prospect.

On paper I reckon the KM 5D is the best camera in that price bracket and if I had to choose today I might choose it over my E-300. The thought of having to clean the sensor is still offputting to me though. Anti-Shake in the camera body sounds pretty good though.
Shed, times have moved on so the reviewers have to raise the bar or the end results become meaningless as all cameras will come out with the same scores. In fact for many of us its probably true that any of a number would do. This also means that my 300D has in the life I have owned it fallen from "wow a bargin" to "basic". Would not have done without it, its been fun.
Sensor cleaning is not something I have to do often or find too big an issue. Once with pads and fluids (though I had to do it twice as it was stuck on)and 3 times with a blower. Given that I would go for the anti-shake.
