Personal Views (subtitle: The art of colour landscape photography) by Lee Frost is excellent. It was published in 1998 so the sections on choosing a camera and choosing film might not be so useful, but the rest of the book is well worth reading and enjoying.

Have a weekend with the Northscape guys, hands on beats a book anyday. Plus you get a weekend away shooting photo's too.
