A NYC based fashion photographer canceled a $15,000 fashion shoot on me 8 hours before the start of the shoot (after mid-night for a shoot that started at 8 am). The photographer stated logistics problems that he could not go in detail on, I did not speak to him again after this call, I was never given even an explanation. All he had to do was to show up with his two assistants and his camera. The production was handled by a third party. I luckily was able to reschedule for the following day with another photographer and only lost $1,500 total in cancelation fees incurred by the modeling agency, studio and catering service.
I am angered by the lack of professionalism of this photographer and I want to invoice the photographer for the $1,500. I did not have a contract, but do have hundreds of emails confirming the shoot which I think act as a legal binding agreement.
Any ideas, information on the legality of me pursuing and requesting payment (possibly through small claims court).
Thank you.
My apologizes for the numerous typos above, I can't seem to be able edit my post.

You have no redress IMO.
Take the $1500 and learn from the experience so as not to get 'bitten' next time...

If your charging $15,000 for a photoshoot your pictures I am sure are outstanding. Maybe members can learn from your skill which I am sure will make you feel so much better about loosing all that money!
Am I cynical?
Unfortunately emails don't carry signatures so you have no binding contract which is a shame on your part, you can try and pursue as a civil matter through magistrates court if that's how it works in the states as well but no guarantees, you might be able to get some compensation then through this route.
As I said no guarantees.

indeed..... a contract is the only way to cover both parties..... and for $15000, you REALLY should have had a contract.
its not what you wanted to hear, but without one, it could be a long and messy proccess that costs alot more than the $1500 you lost already.

odds are ... probably not...
Which is why I asked the question. A little bit of Googling will show the OP, assuming the name in his profile is genuine, is not British... but he's not American either. ![]()
