I am asking this on behalf of a friend.
He is asking what the differences are between these two cameras as he found that m type 240 is newer model yet cheaper.
    Cheers.

No, it's the brand new Leica M. That's not on sale yet and nobody has tested yet. So it's unknown how good it is, but it's three year newer technology so should be better.

It looks a lot like the old one but with totally different sensor.

M9-Ps are listed as higher price but in reality there are lots of deals to be had, like £1000 off if you trade in any DSLR.

New Leica M (called type 240) is here.

I have pointed him to this thread so he can read the replies himself.

The M has a newer CMOS sensor which has live view and more MPs. It doesn't have the frame selector on the front that previous Ms have.
It's supposed to be faster writing, but I don't think that will be too significant in actual use, but what might be significant is the coding on the lens is necessary for the correct viewfinder.... No coding on your older lens, so you either have to have them retro coded, or do it yourself with a Sharpie!

The M is supposed to be cheaper than the M9 by about £1000, making it a "budget" version!!!

If only I could afford one.
