Hi I have just splashed out on a 70-200 is usm lens, and on my first trial with it I was shocked to find that some of the shots were in black and white. My camera is set on adobe rgb, so am I doing something wrong or, Have I got a faulty lens?

The lens comes in two types: mono and colour, I hope that you haven't bought the mono version?

Perhaps this is more helpful. The lens records light and the sensor in the camera records the colour. Are you shooting into the light as this can mute colours, Have you set the camera to shoot in black and white?

Perhaps post an example of your mono result?

just as helpful perhaps I suggest you may be shooting in camera JPEG and have set it to a black & white option? Otherwise my former post stands. Grin

If I bought the mono version surely I would not get any colour and I had my camera set on adobe RGB 1--mg-0112.jpg

I thought this was my mono image but as you see I don't know how to do it

If you tell us what model of camera you own, then perhaps someone who owns the same model can check through their menus.

You say that some of the shots are in black and white so I assume the others are in colour?

The example shots may well be shot in colour. Some subjects just look as if they're monochrome.

Where did you take the photos in question ?

If it was in Northern England that may well explain it because as many Southerners will tell you we still don't have colour "Oop North"

Ignore your current stock of photos. Do some new tests on different subjects and see if you can repeat the exercise.

Nah, that's colour TV.
Heck, in some parts you haven't even got steam radio yet Tongue
