Quite so. Many are the cases where chairmen and CEOs have gone for less, the BBC being one example.

And in many of those cases the resignation has been a result of the press creating a furore and little else. Ever since the Watergate scandal, the holy grail of current affairs reporting is getting someone to resign, not true investigative journalism. In many cases I would rather have in charge someone who has made an error and seeks to correct it than have them resign and replaced by someone else who will either repeat the error out of ignorance or make a different one.
