could anyone tell me how long you think a roll of velvia could be left in my XPan before it becomes damaged/quality deteriorates? The roll itself hasn't passed its sell by date but has been in my camera for a couple of months now.

Depending on how the film has been previously stored, it should last months - if its kept in a reasonably cool, dry environment.

Dave is right, normally a film will go well past its sell by date, but if you have a part used film and leave it for a while you may find that thesecond portion gives you a noticeably different result in terms of image density and colour rendition. Unlikely to be a major problem, though I'd just go out and finish the damned thing - film is so cheap it's not worth waiting for the right moment.
