can anyone help out
going to the falklands in january and want to take a long lens with me or get a converter for the lenses i have
i have seen advertised a prinz galaxy lens 500mm just wondered what they were like
would the canon 2x converter work on the 70 - 200 L and the 70 - 300 is non L lens or would i need one for each
any other suggestions would be gratefully received
eon
ps i have a 30d
i wouldn't bother with the 2x but get the 1.4, images will still be good. to soft with 2x . is it the 70/200 L 2.8 you have ?
I agree - go for the 1.4 teleconverter, mine is almost always on my 70-200mm L lens and image quality is still very high. A 2*TC can be used, but it needs good lighting and image quality takes a very noticable drop - some example shots here: with 100% crops as well:

That was also with the f2.8 lens - if your using the f4 version then you will also lose AF with the 2*TC, whilst with both lenses you retain AF with the 1.4TC.
thats 1.6 crop on the camera then the 1.4 ==448mm. @ f/4
The 100-400mm L I.S. and 1.4X extender is a poor combination. Auto focus won't function and although there is a trick to fool it into working, by covering certain contacts with tape, it is a very hit and miss approach.
Image quality suffers too and whilst the results can be acceptable and even quite reasonible, if conditions are favourable, it's a combination that's best thought of as a last result. Not worth considering IMO. The 100-400mm is a good choice, but not with an extender.
i have the 100/400 you have to make sure you get a good'n some say they have had soft ones so test first if you can .Something to think about i have two canon 1.4 extenders the mk2 and an old one , the thing is the old one gives sharper images ! but only on that lens. i have to use the mk2 on all my other lens's. the auto focus wont work on your camera as well. it works on my 1d mk II N though.
The prinz 500mm will silence all its detractors if someone post up some samples, used correctly it will hammer any zoom.
Yes I have tried it and I was gobsmacked at its sharpness, absolutely

ok thanks
so basically if you have a good lens you get good pictures if its a bad one bad pictures doesn't matter whether its a prinz or canon
i hoped this would be easy
it is get a canon ef 300 2.8 L IS + 1.4 extender !
