Lost my 1.4 extender!

27 Mar 2013 10:55AM
Yesterday, cold and windy, I was on top of Cheddar Gorge keeping an eye on the Peregrine nesting site - no eggs yet. Dismantling my kit to come down, Canon 300mm f2.8, 1.4X extender and the 7D, the extender slipped from my cold fingers, did a couple of bounces and went over the edge! Checked the bottom of the cliff when I got down but no sign so must be stuck up there somewhere.

No problem, fully insured and cheque already on the way but now sourcing a replacement and the best price I have found, other than Simply Electronics, is here Has anybody used these people please? I have used Simply Electronice before and had no problems so just trying to decide.

Cheers

I bought my Canon 70-200 f4L from Martin's and was very happy with both the price and the service.

Thanks for that mikehit. Yes their prices are certainly very competitive so looks good!

Watch the peregrines on the web cam from Norwich Cathedral, there are 2 eggs at the moment..............you can watch from the comfort of your chair, keep warm and enjoy the view, I'm also watching the Osprey nest at Rutland Water........modern technology is great, a click of the mouse and I can keep an eye on two nests miles away from each other...................marvellous............GrinGrinGrinGrinGrinGrinGrin

Great links - thanks! I am keeping a diary on the Gorge family, as I do every year, and we will ring the chick(s) at around 4 weeks.

I ordered an ef-s 15-85mm from Simply Electronics, two weeks later still not arrived emailed and was told waiting for stock. Their website was showing stock, took nearly another two weeks to get a refund.

I wouldn't use them again.

Thanks ikett. I used them a couple of years ago for my Canon 300mm f2.8. Saved 1000 and had no problem so guess it's a case of you pays your money and you take your chance! Thank goodness my transaction went well!

It makes I larf when I see comments like this - nothing against you (or anyone else ikett) because you should be able to rely on the website stock claim. But having worked in manufacturing it is a running joke when you phone a supplier:
"I would like to buy 10 widgets please"
[click-clickety-click of person typing the info into their computer]
"yes sir, the computer shows we have 20 in stock.....but I will just go and check to make sure"
Bleedin' frustrating and evidence that we haven't really progressed that much.

Check these out Michael I have used them a number of times, always reliable for me.........
would I achieve full AF on my Canon 100-400mm with this extender...

Hi Techno. See my post above "deal done" and this is exactly where I've gone. Very good price as they tell me they are "not VAT registered"? Good for us, we save 20% but how do they operate like this I wonder with their warehouse in Crawley? One wonders if they are similar to Simply Electronics!
