If it's a PC open windows Explorer (easy way press the key with the windows flag+E) click on 'My computer' right click and select 'search'.

When the search box opens type

*.jpg

where it says all or part of the file name (assuming they were jpg's - if not replace jpg with whatever suffix the file format was) - click on the search button

The computer will then churn away (maybe for hours) and find every file with the suffix .jpg

She could also install Picasa which when you start it scans your hard drive to find and automatically organise all your pictures.
