I own a canon 650D and I am thinking of purchasing a dedicated canon macro lens either the EF-S 60 mm USM or the 100 mm equivalent.
Does anyone use either of these lenses or have any opinions on either.
Any advice will be very welcome

I have the 100mm f2.8LIS and if you are shooting insects etc I would recommend it over the 60mm because of the greater working distance. I love the IS version of the lens but the non-IS is just as good a quality.
I noticed that the 100mm usm is currently £408 on amazon,it's a shame my budget will not run to the IS version, but as you say the non IS is good quality
and as i am just starting out this will more than fit my needs.
Shame you can`t stretch to the 100 is it is a superb lens & I think you would see the difference but good luck with which ever one you choose.
These were taken with the EF100mm F/2.8 Macro USM. I was the same as you and couldn't afford to stretch to the L as I also bought the 17-40 4L at the same time as canon were giving away cashback on both lenses with an additional £25 if you bought 2.
Its a lovely lens And I would recommend it
I have the two 100mm lens and I am looking at selling the none is but to be honest I see little difference between them, most of the macro images in my P/F are taken with the non is version.
I'm afraid £600+ is over way over budget for me.Hopefully if i go for the 100 usm it will more than suit my requirements at this current time or the foreseeable future.
The canon 100mm macro non L lens is as good too the only thing missing is the red ring, IQ is pretty much identical between the 100mm L and the non L.
Save some more money and go non L.
I have looked on the site and its a great price for the lens.(£344.99)Have you purchased from them or has anyone else used value basket. The customer feedback all points to a very good service.
I just wondered if the lens comes guaranteed as it will be shipping from abroad and wonder where I will stand if a problem develops with the lens.
I have no local camera shop anymore so it looks as if I am going to have to purchase online but I'm just a bit wary as to where to shop. Obviously wex etc are well established but at over £60 cheaper its very tempting order from valuebasket.

Really? I agree about the IQ but the IS lens has 2 far bigger differences than the red ring one being IS and the other being vastly superior AF, its the only macro lens I've ever used where AF is usable up close, although you do need something like a 7D to get the full benefit of that fast AF response.
Ah well just ordered the canon 100mm Marco is. can't wait for delivery in morning, wonder what i'll be doing this weekend, sod painting bathroom,

You won't be disappointed, I promise
One tip, I would give, is make the IS earn it's keep
Owt between 1/50 & 1/00 works fine
