Hi
I would like some advice on lighting systems for Macro both indoor and outdoor. I have a Nikon D3200 and Sigma 105mm VR Macro lens
I am considering the SB910 as a commander, what other cheaper makes are compatible as slaves, or should I be considering a completely
different route.
Thanks
Geoff
For an "around the lens" macro lighting solution (ignoring Nikon's own expensive macro flashes) there are three main options:
1. LED based, such as teepee mentions above
2. Units that provide ring flash by channelling the light from a normal speedlite on the hotshoe
3. Less expensive proper ring-flashes. I use the Marumi DRF14N which cost just over £90 a few years ago (I think it may be nearer £120 nowadays) and I find excellent.
.
I have a Nikon SB21 ring flash with step ring for the 105mm lens plus Nikon AS14 power pack (intended for Nikon F50 and hardly ever used) - if you are interested please let me know.

I went for a Polaroid Macro LED Ring Flash PLMRFN to go with my Nikon 105 Macro after it was recommended to me. It's a very good little ring flash for the money. I use it mainly on the 'light on' mode so I can see to focus properly.
