Uh oh.
I have a TFP fashion photo-shoot this weekend which has probably been arranged for 5 weeks now.
Problem is, the make-up artist who was going to do the shoot TFP (time for prints) has dropped out due to unforseen family circumstances.
What do I do!!!???
a) Delay the shoot till a later date - Pro's: I can get another (or even the same) artist. Con's: The model has been on an Atkins diet all this time and will flip if I cancel or delay.
b) Pay for a make-up artist? Pro's: We'll get a good job (hopefully). Con's: I'm skint!
c) Do it myself. Pro's: I'll not cancel, and I'll not charge myself. Con's: I'm crap.
Does anyone know a good TFP make-up girl/guy in SW London?
Would it be worth going to a local college? There's bound to be some 2nd year hair-&-beauty students who could be interested.
Now that's an idea. Just have to dig out the yellow pages now!
Thanks for the tip.
LOL @ Tony
Would be a good idea, but the shoot requires three make-up changes.
Dean,
Its quite simple.
In your pf you say you want to move to pro, therefore I assume you will be using these photos for your pf?
If you arent then ringing round colleges is a great idea.
If you are...
...like most professionals a good make up artist is worth their weight in gold. You will tell them the look you are looking for and they will advise you as to the suitability with your model. They will also be able to tell advise you about the right make up for the lighting etc etc.
An inexperienced make up artist may not.
The difference in your photos will be like night and day.
Just to repeat, if you are looking to use these photos in your pf then pay the money, its money invested in the business. You get what you pay for.
If you want to do it right, do it right. I've told other people in the last week that you need to invest in any business to make it successful, its not a matter of just picking up a camera and thinking 'today I think I'll do weddings'.
Go make a deal with a pro make up artists, get references if you can (not everyone who says they are a pro are a pro - just look at the people on here). If you are putting the time and effort into it then make sure its done right. Your model will thank you for it.
All good advice Joe. This will be for a portfolio and also as a part of the learning process.
**BREAKING NEWS**
Luckily I have managed to acquire the services of a make-up artist who is also building her portfolio.
I've seen some copies of her work, and it looks impressive.
I'll (fingers crossed) put some photo's up over the next few weeks, as I process them.
I agree with SILLYCONGURU. Phone a local college and inqure about hair and make up artists. It looks good on there portfolios and you might even get a look that you find diffrent for a cheaper price. There is also a very good up side to this. As an ex photography student myself the make up artists need pictures for their portfolios so if they know a good photographer you might end up doing all their portfolio images at a good price. look at my images all were for make up artists at my college and i made a nice little bit of cash from it.
James, it's definitely an avenue I haven't considered, and now you've mentioned it I think I'll chase it up.
Another avenue to build my portfolio!
