This is when Facebook texts you a code on your registered mobile device when you try to access the site from an unauthorized computer/ device.

Doesn't cost either

So for example, I wish to access facebook from my friends house on his laptop. When I log in, it sends my mobile a 'code' to use instead of a password and hey presto!

Not quite, after you log-in with your info it then sends the text, you then enter the code.
It then gives the option of naming the device and saving - if you 'save' the device it won't question you again.
