Can someone help me out. I have a Sigma 105 macro which has both a Auto/manual switch but the focus ring will also push/pull between auto and manual. Do I have to engage both to move from to the other or can I push the focus ring for a quick manual tweak. If not What is the purpose of both activations.

    Thanks

The idea behind the movable focus ring is so you can hold the lens while taking a photo without it whizzing round in your hand.
You should really disengage AF before you use MF so you don't damage the gears.
