    Hi,

I'm trying to find an effective PS tutorial in order to perfectly mask out a water splash so I can add a different background to it.

    Can you help?

    Thanks

    Clint

Ahhh. This is a difficult one without seeing the image and seeing the background it's against.

I'm gonna assume it's against a grey background.

Create two copies of your splash.

Set one layer to multiply and the other to screen.

This will leave just the whites and blacks (on two seperate layers.

There's loads of other ways (for example using calculations) that will probably do it better, but as I said it's difficult without actually seeing the image in question.

I'll PM you with a link to an excellent tutorial using calculations.

Enigma, post that link here if you can. I'd like to see that, maybe others too.

the other option is the background eraser tool - it isn't a 100% perfect option but is very useful. i used it on my destruction theme images to remove the large wave from its background and also removing the sky from the buildings so i could merge these elements into a single image.

Hmm. It is another site not specifically for photos really, but it could be classed as a competitors site. I'll PM the link though if that's OK...

It would seem to be OK in thins case, but you were right to err on the side of caution.

    Cool... in that case

    It's here.

It's a long thread, but a really great method when you figure it out. Chris Tarantino is the main guy who knows his stuff, so pay particular attention to his advice on Calculations.

    Thanks Doug
