    I've just bough this vintage monopod from ebay and I like it but I haven't quite fathomed what that extention bit is for, can it just be used as a handle?

    I think you place it against your chest to help hold it steady.

    Does anybody know what make this could be? It's seems to be well built but obviously from a time before manufacturers felt the need to emblazon their products with company logos etc

    I have no idea, but I don`t think its really that old, looks sixties to me.

    Could be German, East German or from any of many of small UK companies.
