just want to know what people think about motorsport photography

I think it's about photographs of motorsports ![]()

Instead of just showing someone else's websites, would anyone share the technique of sport photography here? e.g. gears, setting, tips, etc. I would like some lessons from pros. Thanks, Liam.
link removed by epz, sorry against site T&Cs, you can put it in your profile though
Motorsport photography can be more about priveledges than any thing else. Due to very restricted access by the public it is becoming increasingly difficult to photograph these events, however my golden rules are;
1. Get there very early
2.Walk the track
3.decide on a good position where you wont be compromised by late arrivals etc
4.Think about the position of the light at the time you will be taking most of your images
5.Be prepared, take lots of memory/film/batteries
6.take a superzoom- up to 500mm if possible
If you can take a set of ladders, this will help when the crowds arrive, or get a press pass, this gets you into all those areas us mere mortals can only dream about.
And finally- good luck!
I love motor sport photography. Snetterton is my local track and the GT3 / Superbikes are my favourite two meets. Wasn't too impressed on the Touring Cars this year and wish I'd gone to the Duxford Flying Legends but thats digressing.
Pink has given some really good advice. Make note of how the sun tracks across the circuit so that you get the light right. Get there really early. I tend to get to the Superbike meets at 6am !! Batteries are a must and keep a check on your histogram. I often shoot at -1ev depending on the light and very rarely shoot at 0.
Don't forget the other things going on - the shrink wrapped trophy babes, the trophies themselves and general images of the paddocks. One of my fav photos is the reflection of a winners ribbons and wreath in the silver trophy cup.
The biggest problem comes from the press togs. The amaturish ones especially constantly get in your way and think nothing of just standing there holding a conversation right in front of you. I could rant on about them and their lack of courtesy to others for ages grrrrr.

Hardly..this is a thread asking for opinions of a certain genre, possibly based on the apparent lack of recognition that most sports photography receives on EPZ.
It has also led to some good advice for anyone wishing to try it. My extra little gem is to find your local motoring / car clubs and see what events they run, you may be surprised as to what is on your doorstep.
The most important piece of advice is stay alert! Motorsport is unpredictable and sometimes you could easily become too close to the action for comfort, been there, done it and studied the underside of a Fiat X19 !

Umm.......dare i say i'm sick of seeing bikes entering 'Druids' at Brands hatch on this site...........and i do 10 rounds of BSB/WSB/MOTO GP every year, there are other places to photograph from at Brands.....and you won't need ladders to do so,entrance to 'Hawthorns' for example where you look down on the bikes....Marcus
I've tried looking through the galleries on the BSB forum for a French guy who was posting photos last year i think his name was Alex does that ring a bell with any bike fans on here?.....alas i can't find him or his website, but he is the best bike tog ever,in my opinion,i'll keep trying......Marcus
