I would say Tamron 18-270. From macro to wide angle to telephoto it is a very good performer.

I can recommend that lens., I bought it based on the road test article mikehit has linked. For such a super zoom its a very good performer. I've included a few images taken with it

Oops forgot to add - its dropped a heck of a lot in price since I bought mine - you can pick it up for £349 in the canon fit now. Considering price - it gives you a lot of versatility and is very good value.

Thanks for your recommendation. Have read a few reviews and they talk about the Canon EF-S 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 IS was wondering if someone can help with which lens would be best to go for.

I just took a look at the Tamron. I'm completely shocked, amazed, impressed and oogly-eyed at this glass. I'd expect that quality from pro-grade glass and then some!

Go for the Tamron, I had it when I still had my 20D and it was great, useful for so many purposes. Check out Mike's link, and you'll find a thread with a myriad of different kinds of photos taken with it, that should convince you.
