Quote: I have just recently been working towards opening my own studio. In fact tommorrow is suppose to be my grand opening, but I am having some problems with my lights. I Hopefully all will work out and it will get started with a BANG!!

I sense a certain amount of ich bin ein flammenwerfer on the horizon...

There are some useful articles in the technique section here

(Lets hope it doesn't go with a BANG!)

My serious advice would be NOT to open until you know how to use 3K of light properly under all situations and required styles.

You're not ready to be a photographer.
    Honest.

Well , everyone is entitled to their own opinions and if thats what you think (keithh) then so be it. I was asking for some help. No I don't plan on photographing anyone until I get things right. Any helpful advise would be greatly appreciated!!

Im gonna drink one on your name KPhoto.
Wish you luck, but I must agree with Keith (both)

Nothing like jumping in at the deep end...

Hide the lights and tell everyone your supplier let you down! Once you get a chance then read up and practice practice practice with a willing volunteer. Might be worth getting on a course or two as well.

If you live anywhere near Glasgow I'd be glad to help, but I bet you don't!

Errrm, are your comments somewhat contradictory? It just seems to me (and probably one or two others) that opening a studio without any idea about lights is probably not the best plan... Who wrote your business plan, the Pied Piper?

However, seeing you last reply, I could say that maybe is better to postpone the grand opening and wait a bit until you are confident with your skills and ready to take advice, no matter how harsh, from people who are in the buisness.

Why the expense of a 'Grand Opening' then?

More than that... He is a 3rd generation pro in the family business who is respected and whose opinions are highly valued. The fact that he speaks as he 'sees' is an absolute bonus. You ain't ready - fact.

Kristina, I thought KeithH was quite tactful actually.
If you click on his name you'll see that he knows about this.
He has been very helpful on this sort of topic in the past, but if you really do know nothing about it, you're not likely to know enough tomorrow.
Its also useful if you're more specific - asking a particular question about lighting will get a useful response, but if you need to know everything, the best people can do is point you to a book, a website, or a training course.

If you really know nothing, the pages I linked to will get you started.
