This has probably been mentuoned before but it's the first time I've seen the new Canon compact (CSC) advertised for sale (although it says 'No stock until October') . Only found it by accident.

Coleslaw, yes I saw that previously, however I did say it was the first time that I'd seen it on sale.

WEX is always one of the quickest for pre-order.

Canon list it under their SLR section - Not compact section
    www.canon.co.uk/For_Home/Product_Finder/Cameras/Digital_SLR/EOS_M

In another article they say its everything you want in an SLR in a smaller package and they are proud to give it the EOS name.
It does rather look like the Sony NEX CSC's though - particularly on the Wex site with all those colours.

I'd like to see a lens roadmap, though with that EF adapter its less pressing.

October is a long way off and prices should hold over Christmas.

I'm disappointed................... they didn't make it in blue and green. Sad

Must admit I'm not convinced by the idea of an EVF. That said I've yet to try one so I suppose I can't really criticise.

I wonder if they're really going to be available in October, or will it be more like December/Xmas ?

It's nice to have the speculation over and know that Canon have produced this.
Potentially interesting, but until they get a viewfinder for it, it's a piece of crud.
Could be the portender of great things, but seems to be marketed at Dumb Users.
Reminds me of the first Leica offered for sale - groundbreaking, but not a finished product.

Depending what you're doing they can be OK. Personally I find them usable most of the time, but sometimes abysmal. I would still usually, but not always, prefer a DSLR if possible.

(P.S. No, I don't actually remember the first Leica coming out, I've just seen pictures of it Wink )

I just noticed at WEX, they seem to include the EF adapter in the kit, which is a nice touch.

This is an interesting move by Canon. Is this first mirrorless camera by them just the tip of the iceberg.
Reason I say this is I a saw a rumour that they could well be working on a challenge to the Olympus O-MD E-M5, and it was another retro style along the lines of the old Canon AE-1. which was just as iconic as the OM cameras.

I must confess my ignorance here (!). I thought that the Canon M was going to have an optional EVF but obviously not. In which case i agree with that statement.

As for an M43 adaptor, I can't really see the point of owning a range of Canon lenses (especially 'L' lenses) and fitting them to another make of camera.

I could be in line to do that - I love the idea off the OM-D as a general system for everyday photography and find the 7D a bit bulky to carry everywhere. Yet I like the 7D for wildlife photography. If I had an adapter I could sell the Canon gear to fund the OM-D but have the option of keeping the 70-200 f4+tc for wildlife (or the 100-400?). There would be other considerations such as ergonomics of having a small camera on this lens but I would have the option.
Now if he new Canon -M is up to scratch, maybe I could keep it all in the Canon family but it seems it would have to get rave reviews to do that.

    @ mikehit

Each to his own i suppose.

However, I still struggle to understand the logic of keeping high quality Canon lenses and buying an OMD body (or any other brand) which, when compared to (say) the Canon 600D, is only approx 150 grm lighter and not that much smaller! Plus of course, with the 600D you get the same processor (Digic 4) as in the 7D plus a fully articulated monitor plus optical v/f.

Also, the mind boggles at the thought of saving bulk when mentioning the 100-400! Smile
