We will soon be introducing a new option to upload and play slide shows. This should not be confused with the slide show mode that will be introduced in the gallery, but a stand alone feature that allows movie files to be uploaded in the download section.
As a way to kick start this we thought we'd have a fun competition. First of all take a look at this tutorial I've written which will get you started. Create an AV with a free editor you have on your PC. Then have a go and see if you can do better using the same program or one of the other editing programs widely available such as Pro Show Gold or Camtasia.
Upload your version to the Video Podcast download section here. All the short-listed slide shows will be viewable though our new player so it's your chance to show off your skills.
I will be judging the competition and will be looking for short slide shows that show best use of one or more of the following:
Best choice of music/pictures
Best theme
Slickest transitions
Most original set
And the winner will get one of the last remaining hardback copies of the limited edition ePHOTOzine Guide to Great Photography signed by the whole team.
Go for it, be creative!
Can't wait to try it. Is there a size limit for the final creation?
Edit
Just found the answer in the upload section.
Quote: I'm fuzzy on the background music copyright rules for this sort of project. Can you let me know what they are please?
Thanks
Probably a very good question as in the UK it is still illegal (despite what the mp3 brigade believe) to make copies of any copyright recordings without the owners permission.
Quote: but is this competition for showing tutorials etc or (for example) a slideshow of images on a theme, or a gallery slideshow?
It's for a gallery slideshow?

Check on the site to see what the owner of the music has said, some say it can be used providing a link is given, some will only allow it providing a royalty free licence has been purchased and some say for personal use only. Many up and coming artists want to become famous and sharing is a way to gain this status.
Quote: Can us mac owners created one in imovie I presume then?
Yes sure, the idea is as long as it's the free one that comes with you PC or MAC then everyone is in a fair position.
What a fantastic Idea! Now I can show a whole bunch of dreary dull photos I never dared upload and they will still look exciting
Seriously I was thinking of doing something similar along these lines and now I cant put it off much longer, time to get those creative juices running.
cheers.
