New forum feature: Flag posts as helpful

When you start a topic, you are now able to flag replies if you find them particularly helpful.

When flagged, they will appear highlighted in green to other users. This makes it easier to see helpful replies in a long topic and also gives a bit of kudos to the person who helped.

This new feature requires Javascript to be enabled. As a bonus, there's no slow page refreshing needed, so you should be able to flag helpful posts quickly and easily.

Always wear comfortable shoes on long photo shoots.

Do I win a flag?

Excellent feature Will, it should prove a hit.

I forgot to mention, this feature will be rolled out to the gallery comments too if it proves successful in the forums.

I've also flagged this post of mine as helpful, so you can see what they look like.

I think EPZ is making a rod for its own back actually!

Just wait for the complaints from people about their replies not being flagged!

Can I have a flag please? Grin

Get in line. I asked first.

Boyd, I should point out that messages should only really be flagged as helpful if they are helpful to the subject of the topic. Smile

Good idea this, but it will obviously rely on the owner of the forum topic or gallery image taking the time to flag the useful comments.

Especially useful in the forum where we typically get about 60 incidental comments for every useful one Smile

Fair point about relying on the owners Dave, but we've done it in Javascript on purpose so it only takes a second to flag a message as helpful. There's no waiting around for the page to reload.

Nice idea for the forum

But I'm not sure that it will work in the gallery

We are hoping that this will encourage good topic posts. If someone asks a question and gets 60 replies one of those replies may have totally answered the question, 30 given decent but not conclusive answers and the rest been totally irrelevant.

Anyone new coming to the thread could read the first post and jump straight to the most useful answer.

If used correctly this will be a great feature...and then again you can choose to ruin it! It's up to you!

This is a divisive feature, IMO - going along the path of the clicks/blue hearts in the gallery.

You will have chums flagging each others replies - helpful or not.

If people abuse the system they will have their ability to use it withdrawn.
