Open your TV listings magazine and have a look at the type of interest programmes you will find. DIY, fishing, gardening, aeroplanes, model making, motoring, football even train spotting,. But there will be one interest that you wont find in the list and thats Photography. But why? Im sure that more people in this country have a camera sitting some where rather than a fishing rod or a model of a spitfire waiting to be glued together. Unfortunately, the majority of those cameras only come out on special occasions like birthdays or Christmas but Im sure most people would like to improve there holiday snaps or just make picking up the camera they got for their birthday more productive.
The photography business is huge not only in the UK but world wide so it certainly has enough interest to warrant a dedicated TV programme.
Top Gear is a very successful TV magazine programme for the motor world, showing reviews of new products, interviews, driving techniques as well as news and issues close to the world of driving.
How about a programme on similar lines for Photography? If you can make a paper magazine like Amateur Photographer work every week, there must be enough material for a weekly half hour or even one hour programme. Also, programme sponsors would be plentiful. Maybe it could be in association with Ephotozine?
So would you watch it?

There was a series done years ago with, if I remember rightly Will Cheung from PP. I don't think it was popular or I'm sure they would have revisited it. Perhaps now digital is here it's time to have another go. There have been loads of bits on digital TV. I did a piece on a series called cre@te which was like Ready, Steady, Cook but for digital imaging...I think that flopped too!
I find it staggering with all the channels now available that such large areas of interest are ignored. I watch less and less - partially due to this site, but mostly due to my total boredom of reality TV. Anyway, there was a very good program on Cecil Beaton last week.
Might be nice if this site had a reminder slot for up and coming photography programs on TV and Radio as they're such rarities.

Count me in - I'd love it! There used to be a 'technology' channel on Sky called '.TV', that went west. A channel devoted to photography in all it's guises would be fantastic. There's so much about this art/science/living/hobby/'beautiful game' that I'm sure it could sell.
all we need now is a TV exective as a member - or someone to send an idea to one of the TV production companies
the thought had crossed my mind too, I did a degree in film making and often thought a photography show would be a good idea.
I think it would have to cover every aspect of the 'art' not just digital. The channel 4 photography comp they had went down well and the History Channel had a kind of photo comp as well. Now there is Country file photography competition which is doing great and i think loacal BBC areas have a comp going for their calendars. All these competitions on TV but nothing to tell people how to win them,if you know what i mean.

I know Andy Rouse had a series on Channel 5 as it was then, but I don't usually look at the 5 listings before 9pm, so I only discovered it just after the last one aired.
Would love to see repeats.
ajf - I still miss .TV but I saw Kate whatsername on the BBC News 24 Technology spot a couple of nights ago.
I noticed they were recently showing Andy Rouse's "Wildlife Photographer" series on the Animal Panet channel on Sky recently and they seem to haul it out for another airing every few months.
Also, there was a series back in the mid (I think) 90s on either BBBC2 or Channel 4 called "The Photo Show" presented by Andy earl and some woman I'd never heard of before or since that seemed to fluctuate between being banal and pretentious in the extreme
