New Year, Fresh Start!

11 Jan 2010 12:43PM
I'm reclaiming photography as my hobby, relocating to the other side of the country, and starting a new job in a completely different field next month.

It's rather alot to take in as I'm moving from Suffolk to Herefordshire in a couple of weeks, with the rest of the family coming to join me in a few months. I'm closing down my studio and gallery which I've been running for 3 years and selling off most of the kit. Starting my new job with an outdoor education centre, helping develop new programmes and doing the sales and marketing.

I still don't know whether to be excited or terrified!

I think you might be missing the sea over here but hope the new job goes well.
Welcome to an underrated county.

I might miss the sea, but I have hills and mountains to replace it.

The very best of luck.

Why are you moving away from full time photography?

Just got a bit jaded and stuck in a rut having to turn out images to pay bills rather than taking them for fun. I worked in outdoor education before I started up my business, so just returning to my other passion.

I'll still carry on with the landscape and fine art stuff - just no more portraits.........for now.

I think you will be okay. Herefordshire is a quiet place but there is still plenty to see and do here. If you can't find what you want just look across the border to Wales (that's what I do) pretty sure you will find it there.
Best of luck for the future

I lived in Ross On Wye for a few years, so thats one of the reasons we've been looking to move back to the area. My wife is from Bristol originally so we'll be closer to her family.

When your hobbies are hill walking, canoeing and mountain biking Suffolk can be a bit limiting so looking forward to the outdoor life again, and getting my weekends back.

congratulations, and I'm sure you'll find time for photography in your new role! I think Ruff Ride is in Herefordshire? (Ripton? I think is the name of the place) beautiful countryside.
