i live in York. great place to go! unfortunately i'm away that weekend. as for photogenic pubs.... there are loads. Not least the Kings Arms (the one that always floods). Take a walk around the walls too. you'll see the minster and other great place from a different angle! happy hunting!
I will be watching the weather for a few days prior to this,, as if it looks like it is going to be pooring with rain then i might have to give it a miss.... its not fun walking round sheilding the camera from the elements, and yourself, lol
I am hoping that it is a nice calm evening though....
I've put it in the diary as I have a free weekend at present. I live half an hour from York so should be okay. Might have to bring my good lady along to "Assist". That is assist in driving home as I am sure any night photography in York should finish with a bar sampler or three! Well it would be rude not to and where else do we go to recap on the evenings adventures?

I am bringing my wife too, but wont be entering any bars with all my camera gear.... pubs are for another time. ![]()
Going to York and not going to a pub is indeed a bizarre concept
A bit like going to Amsterdam and avoiding the RLD and not having a smoke ![]()
I'll grant you I've not done camera gear in a York pub on a Saturday night but many other midweek and Saturday and Sunday afternoons and never a problem. Take the usual security precautions with bag between legs and hand on strap but never had any issues. This included an absolutely packed Windmill Pub on York Race day at the end of July and people apologising to me as I knocked them out of the way with tripod and lowepro slingshot!
Certainly understand your concerns and although "chancers" exist anywhere and everywhere a little common sense will ensure there are no "security" problems - I wouldnt suggest going to the "yoof" bars anyway as getting a seat for some good chat and recap on the evening would not be possible anyway - plus they have doormen who might not be quite so keen to let rucksack clad people in.
Plenty of pleasant quieter pubs to grab a drink and talk through the experiences of the evening. If its not for you then no probs the photography should be good subject to weather anyway.
