Hi Any one use this lens, I'm thinking of getting it as a"walk about" lens . My beautiful 24 - 70 f2.8 can be a little heavy ! Damian

I own and use both lenses.
The fast zoom is ideal for critical shooting but as you imply is big and heavy.
The vibration reduction option has more magnification in close focus and has the longer focal length.
The vibration reduction option means you'll need a tripod less often.
At f4 the fast zoom optical quality is best. By around f8-11 I regard these lenses as close to optically equal.
By "walk about" I presume on occasions that you are prepared to accept some compromise. Even so with a 17-36 MP body you can crop 120 mm and print a good A3 with a 135-200mm equivalent angle of view.
