According to another website it is to deal with very long exposures and some issues around that scenario. So probably not required by everyone if that is the case.

    Quote from the website

Quote: The D300 has two different sets of firmware, A and B. This download upgrades the A firmware to version 1.02 only.
This firmware resolves an issue which, in rare cases, causes vertical bands to appear in images captured at shutter speeds slower than 8 seconds.

    Wakey Wakey! Smile

Not 'Banding' again - surely! I amazed.

    Off to 'cuddle' my D200...

    Wink

    EDIT:

Sorry Mike - just read your input. Nice to know I'm in similar-minded company...

Has anyone downloaded and installed this update? If so was there any issues or have you seen improvements?

    Cheers.

    Darren.

Yes, I downloaded and installed the update to no apparent effect.

Well me being thick couldn't figure it out so I tried out my d300 on a longish exposure and all was well so I don't need it.

I tried a long exposure first too.

    No banding, didn't bother.

Cheers guys, I must say I've taken a few very long exposures and seen no banding so probably wont bother either.

    Darren.
