    Welcome to EPZ, Vanjo. Smile

What camera to you have at present and how much are you prepared to spend in total: camera + lenses?

D90 and 5D MKII are 2 totally different animals.
For beginner, Nikon D90 or canon 450D or 40D would be a good choice.

I have just been watching this review, on the Canon 5D MkII! I found it very informative. There are lots of other reviews that might help you make up your mind.

(The reviews can be found in the drop down bar at the top of the page!)

Don't know anything about the Nikon, but the 5D would not be my choice of camera to learn on. It's sounds as if you are new to photography, I'd try something a bit more basic to learn the basics.

when you get down to it the difference in operation between a 1DM3 and 460D is that the 450D has some preset auto shooting modes (like sports and macro) and the 1D does not. Aside from that the technical operation of both cameras is pretty much the same - yes the 1D will have more additional features, but the basics of an exposure (shutter speed, ISO and aperture) are exactly the same - so in that respect it makes little difference which camera you learn on as long as you keep the manual with you and stay away from the custom features in the early days.

My view though is that a good camera body is nothing without good glass infront of it. I would much rather have a 400D and a 300mm f2.8 L than a 1DM3 and a sigma 70-300mm macro - even though the latter camera is better the lens is not and the lens is what directly controls the quality of light you get into the camera.

So my warning is not to blow your whole budget on a body without some money for good glass - which will be difined by your interests - so what are they? The 25-105mm f4 IS L is sold with the 5DM2 and its a quality lens = so you can already start off with a good lens - but is there any particular area of interst for you that might not be covered by this lens - macro, sports, wildilfe, ?

Alex, he's talking about a 5D Mk II, not a 1D of any sort...

I know - but I was taking the extreme example ( that of a rebel vs the canon toprange camera). To display my point that the basic function of a DLSR at the pro and beginner level is very similar
