Quote: It seems the D3 will switch to DX format automatically if you fit a DX lens

Yep it was mentioned in the PR, it will revert to a crop mode of 5.1MP.

The D3 is full frame (FX) but the D300 is cropped (DX). Full details are now on the EPZ news pages.

You do lose big time on the resolution though, as it drops to 5 megapixels. Should be capable of delivering 8, I wonder why you lose the other 3?

It is not FF, I quote the Nikon press release

Quote: The 12.1 effective megapixel D3 features Nikon’s new FX-format CMOS sensor, measuring 23.9 x 36mm, which is nearly identical to the size of 35mm film.

NEARLY being the keyword here. Sorry Wink

Anyone else think the D3 looks ugly?

The D300 may go on my Christmas list for 2008. Interesting to note that both "Live View" and "Sensor Cleaning" are included. Why would anyone need a 51pt AF?

Just a thought, using DX lenses does the 5MP res, mean it becomes a 2.4 cropper?

Is the D3 the camera which comes in line with the 1ds mk3 or will there be a D3X release?
