Looking at the Jessops website there is a marked difference in price between the 55-300mm lens and the 70-300mm lens.
Both the lenses have similar features VR, SWM as far as i can see.
Am i missing the point or losing the plot? I know i've had a few beers but can someone enlighten me please.
I'm looking for a 300mm zoom and at first glance the 55-300 would appear the better option. Am i wrong?

55-300 DX cameras only, slower focus, no instant manual focus over-ride.....objects that stay still
70-300 FX or DX quicker focus, instant manual focus over-ride, which is most of the extra cost....objects that may move....
Ah! Thank you my friend. 55-300 it is then
As posted above 70-300 is faster to focus and over-ride,i have the 55-300 nice lens images are fine sharp, but it is slow to focus if it is going from say 100-300mm if you are in the ball park ssay 250-300 then focus is ok use it as walk about lens and happy with results, get it from amazon or other shopo cheaper got mine for £220 at that price it is a steal just looked £299 in jessops.
Hi i have a 70-300 and its only downfall is Nikon forgot to put a tripod mount on it,appart from that is a very good lens,
Look at other places than Jessops as prices vary quite a lot.
Its £359 here
Hi i have a 70-300 and its only downfall is Nikon forgot to put a tripod mount on it,appart from that is a very good lens
I also have the 70-300 lens and it is fabulous for the price. The lack of a tripod mount is not too serious as it is such a light lens it is very stable using the camera tripod mount.
I hit underline instead of quote in the above post.
Phew! So relieved
