    Hi All,

Got a bit of a problem.
My insurance company bought me a TC-14E II converter to go with my 80-200 f2.8 ED lens but I just cant get the converter on to the lens.

The manual says I should align the lens mounting index with the aperture index on the lens then turn teleconverter anticlockwise so it clicks into place.

Well, after 2 hours and 3 people having a go, we still cant get the thing on.

Is the lens and teleconverter compatible. The manual says it is. I'm seriously about to chuck the damn thing through the nearest window :-(

    Any help greatly appreciated...

I have to line up a couple of dots.
Tried just turning the one on top of the other and feeling if it will drop in at some other position?

Have you got the right converter...? There are two. And for a Mk1/2 (i.e. 'D') non-AF lens, it's a different one. I suspect you may have been supplied an incorrect version by your Insurers. They are not intermateable I'm afraid Sad

hope you have solved it, and although I am not familiar with Nikon stuff, I can think of two other things you could try ;- if lens has a telecope lock on it , release it, or AF/MF button, try the other position

I hope I've got the right converter.
The lens I've got is the AF 80-200mm 2.8 ED so presuming its AF thus assuming the converter is the right one.

I've tried lining all the dots up but it just doesnt fit. It fits lovely to the body of my D200 but doesnt take the lens. Having read the manual, it says that it is compatible with the AF 80-200mm 2.8 ED.

    I'm at a complete loss.
I may even pop into Jessops after the Xmas rush and see if they can show me how the damn thing works lol.

Sounds as though you have the wrong one... Sad

I have (what I believe is) the same lens. Mine is a 'one-touch' 'D' version i.e. I can zoom and focus on the same, single ring - and it also has the orignal version of AF. Does your lens have one or two control rings?

Take a look here and tell me which is most like yours.

    Hi Mike,

Yeah, the lens I've got is the "D" so it appears I've got the wrong one.

It's got two control rings. One for the focal length and one for manual focusing (when not set to AF)

Can you recommend what I need to ask my insurance company to replace it with then?

Ken Rockwell will clarify the compatibility side of things John; calling Nikon after the break will (hopefully) provide the definitive answer to your dilemma I feel - unless someone can step in to assist you with that specific detail...

May I just ask if you are fitting the converter to the body before trying to fit the lens. I have an older converter than yours, but none of my lenses will fit when it is off the body, why I don't know, it just won't allow them. If I put the converter on the body I can then fit any of my lenses to it.
