Can it perhaps only be a matter of time before Canon (and KM, Olympus, Pentax etc) follow suit?

Perhaps leaving the likes of Leica to soldier on with film - and maybe not even them in the very long term.

Cool, does that mean I'll be able to get an F6 cheap. Or does it mean they'll get more expensive due to rarity Wink)

So OK (Ian) digicammad I trust the BBC more than that other dodgy website that (Ian) characterboats directed you too - LOL!

Working in a rather 'touristy' area as I do I tend to notice what sort of cameras our friends from abroad (or other parts of the UK) are using.

95% digi I would say, and most of the rest disposable film cameras.

    The writing's on the wall........

I wonder how long it will take though (if it ever happens) before digital cameras stay around as long as the film models before being superseded.

That will only happen when digital has reached some sort of plateau of development.

No light at the end of that tunnel yet but lenses are (I assume) going to be the showstopper unless there is a major breakthrough.

Yep, my thoughts too. Considering that micro computers have now been around for 30 years and the pace of change is still accelerating, I don't expect a plateau in my lifetime.

I think the next development will be more pixels to overcome the lens performance issues. Say having a 30mp sensor to produce a 12mp image, but with the ability to map out CA etc.

    Interesting bit of lateral thinking.
