BigRick, I said that "serious image-makers tend to keep their kit" because most serious photographers that I know are more interested in the images that they make and regard cameras as tools.

If you like shiny new things, great! It's your hobby and you do what gives you pleasure, which is very sensible.

I'm not sure I agree with you there. Most newspapers for instance have a standing order if that's the right word with their prime supplier to replace bodies when new ones becomes available. In any event, being about the only major capital item I can spend money on, I gladly part with cash for new shiny kit rather than hand it to the tax man which would be the alternative Smile

Barrie, even with the current penal tax rate, you're paying half of any kit you buy.

When they abolish the top tax rate, you'll be keeping a healthier 60% of your profits.

Do newspapers still have staffers?
