Side by side these are completely different lenses.

Out of these two what would you choose and why.

Isn't the Noktor mainly used for video?

They both can be used for stills or video, but the Noktor has some nice quirks giving video a more cinematic feel, the Olympus has silent focusing or near silent and lovely smooth manual focus.

    Noktor 12mm

    All metal and well made
    manual focus
    Lovely smooth focusing
    Depth of field scale
    Widest aperture f1.6
    Nice aprture ring
silent floating f stops, nice and smooth
    very close focusing almost macro
A hood can`t be used due to the lens design
Flare can be a problem if you don`t like or want it, but I quite like this effect
    Cost £500

    Olympus 12mm

    All metal and well made
    Auto focus
    Silent auto focus
    Lovely smooth manual focusing
    Depth of field scale
    Widest aperture f2
    Close focusing
    Some flare without hood
A decent hood is available but expensive
    Cost £600, hood extra

Becasue they would get very little use. Smile

If I want wide, I'd prefer the Oly 9-18mm. Gives more flexibility and I'm not fussed about wide apertures.

Still haven`t decided on the camera, if I go for a Pen it will probably be the Olympus 12mm, if its the EM5 it will probably be the Noktor 12mm.

Other than price, I'm still a little baffled why you're considering a Pen. confused2-light.jpg

Feels more comfortable in the hand CB, the EM5 as good as it is(I know its a better camera) just does not feel right.

I know we can go and have a play at jessops for the Pen range but is the OM-D the same as the E5...forbidden fruit and just models you have to buy online and hope you have done the homework...seems a funny way to have to go to buy something.
