Im sure what anyone else thinks but I don't think they have helped themselves with these. I don't think I will be upgrading just yet!
Well the quality of the High ISO speaks volumes, and from what I've seen of the sports togs unofficial images from the D3 it sure is an interesting camera, I'd sure upgrade when I can find that much dosh!
The ISO 6400 shot is fantastic!

Not quite dure what you mean there Nick... Care to elaborate?
Well I'm pretty impressed. At least the ISO 6400 is a more real-world situation than most test shots where the ISO wasn't really required for the lighting available.
Would say that the ISO 6400 is better than ISO 800 currently on the D2X, and by quite a margin.
Would like to see some more images, though.

Have you seen the "alleged", non-official images Cheryl, including the ISO 25600 shot? I can link them if you've not...

Eh? If it hasn't been fiddled with that iso6400 shot is, as Doclassie says, fantastic. The D2x/s can't touch this sort of performance.
The other shots look great too. Kudos to Nikon for posting full size examples.
I think you need to have another look Nick!
I hate to be a geek, but the bokeh on that new 24-70mm f2.8 looks quite nice too. :o)
I think I'm more excited about the new 24-70 than I am with the new cameras... Mainly because I stand a much greater chance of owning one anytime soon than I do with the D3. I keep getting close to breaking out the credit card and putting a pre-order in and then I catch myself and realise that I'd be just as well off with a reduced price D200 (when the D300 comes out). Curse my powers of reasoning!
I've downloaded the 6400 and 3200 ISO shots and been looking at them in Bridge and PS... They're really quite lovely. Just one question though, or an observation at least... The 6400 shot is 1/160 f/5.6, right? Why not just shoot 1/160 f/2.8 1600 ISO? The room can't be *THAT* dark to be getting 1/160... I suppose I'm just comparing it to a darkened church wedding...
James why are you so excited about that lens? Do you expect it to be much better than the current 28-70? I've not heard enough about it to know.
No particular reason to be fair Steve... Got the Nikon Pro mag through the door the other day, and it had a separate section devoted to the new cameras and the 5 new lenses. I've been reading it ever since, and winding myself up into a frenzy!
I guess my point is that I know I need to upgrade at least one of my bodies in the next 12 months, preferably sooner rather than later. Much as I'd love a D3 or a D300, the harsh light of reality suggests that I'll be getting a D200 or two after November when the D300 has brought the prices down some. I may even buy second hand to keep costs even lower.
However, 24-70 is the range that I shoot most of my "work" pictures at and so the chance of a reduced price D200 and a shiny new 24-70 AF-S is a much more realistic proposition to me right now, than the overall dream of a D3 and location shoots of bikini models in Maui!

Even the location of Maui would not be enough to sweeten the image of Matt in a bikini

It would if he was in Rotherham...
